Puppetry for Artists: Exquisite small hand and rod puppets

with Isobel Smith

Make a puppet based on your own drawing/painting and learn the puppeteering techniques needed to explore its character and make it come alive. Covers ideas generation and design through to completion of a puppet. Techniques include polymer clay modeling, wire armatures, stitching, gluing and painting. There will be a demonstration of puppeteering skills followed by an opportunity to animate a puppet and explore and develop its character to music.

Isobel Smith is a puppet maker and puppeteer, she studied design at Central St Martin's and Fine Art at University of Brighton. Isobel is mentored by the prestigious Green Ginger puppet company in Bristol and performs regularly with her musicians Foster&Gilvan as Badstock Productions at Jane Bom-Banes in Brighton and various locations in London and Brighton. Her company, Gravy Boat Puppets was launched in 2007. She is a Creative Partnerships Practitioner in several Sussex schools. Isobel is currently converting a caravan into a touring puppet theatre.
