Analogue Sound Workshop

with Ian Helliwell

IanHelliwell

[Course Notes]

A one-day practical session focussing on analogue electronic music techniques using hands on tools and equipment. Each student will make their own tape loops, draw sound onto 16mm film, build a Junior Theremin kit and creatively solder a walkie-talkie circuit. All materials provided.

Ian Helliwell has produced music, super-8 films, electronic instruments, cinema and music programmes and light-show projections for concerts and club nights. Since the early 1990s he has been building and modifying 9v circuitry, developing his unique series of Hellitron tone generators, which are used for live performance and for the soundtracks to his super-8 films. In 2007 he designed and built an analogue synth, the Hellisizer 2000, and during 2008/09 he has been making The Tone Generation, a radio series, which traces the early development of electronic music. www.ianhelliwell.co.uk
