Drawing Outside the Studio

with Rachel Cohen and Dinah Kellyrachel_cohen_outside

Working with a range of drawing media, mostly in sketchbooks this course takes students outside the studio to draw. The aim is to develop confidence and research skills. Sites will include exterior and interior locations (within walking distance from Phoenix Brighton) such as parks or gardens, the beach and museums. Each session will focus on a particular skill. Each session starts at Phoenix Brighton with an inspirational discussion and then moves to the location for that week.

Rachel Cohen studied Art History at Sussex University and Fine Art at Brighton. She works with drawing and painting, photography, animation and site-specific installation. She organises workshops and courses and residencies involving public participation. Local projects include Bookmarks at Jubilee Library, and Chinese Whispers, a drawing experiment in collaboration with scientists at The University of Sussex.
