Video Art

with Alvaro Collar

Provides a theoretical and practical approach to video art. The course introduces different trends and their critical contexts, as well as the main artists working in the field, encouraging a thoughtful critical review of the most representative video art pieces. Students will also develop short pieces of their own, learning the basic skills needed to plan and create a video. Please bring your own video camera or any  video recording device, and you may also bring your laptop.

Alvaro Collar received his BA in Media Studies from Complutense University of Madrid. A
successful video artist, he is the creator of pieces such as Onirica (2008) and The Fifth
Room
(2005) which won the Minute Movie Cup and were selected to represent Spain at
the UNICA World Minute Movie Cup 2009 and 2006, and Centrifuge (2007) which won the
First MovilFilmFest Best Original Idea prize. He has been teaching video art in the UK and
Spain, at film schools, art galleries and art centres.
