Video Art Mapping Workshop

Learn how to make your own video clips about places in Brighton that are meaningful to you, using simple camera and editing techniques.
The workshop leader and artist in residence is Alvaro Collar
The workshop is being run as part of the VAM Residency and offers a unique opportunity to take part in a Brighton wide video map. The workshop is open to anyone over 16 with an interest in making a short video. You do not need to have any particular expertise in the field.
Outline of the day:
- Introduction to the workshop and VAM project
- Screening of examples of video art.
- First practical exercise
- Lunch Break and talk
- second practical exercise
- Screening and discussion
- Theory and practice of conversion, reformatting, uploading and tagging
This is a short workshop so the focus will be mainly on getting everyone to take some usable footage. The last part of the day will take students through editing and uploading their videos, which will equip students with the information and tools to have a go at editing themselves. Alvaro will be available at Phoenix for a couple of months after the workshop so students can drop in and learn more from Alvaro during his residency at Phoenix Brighton.
Equipment - please bring with you:
- video camera if you have one
- Or a camera with a video facility
- Or a mobile phone with video facility will be fine
- A laptop if you have one.
