Jewellery Making
Metal is a wonderful material to work, with its versatility and
strength but also for me, its connection to the people who have worked
it throughout the ages.
With a mind for the past and present co-existing through objects
and places, I am interested in the world around me and the mark of time
on things like the paths made by sheep on the downs, wear and tear
on drain covers in the town and the changing shadows made by
railings and trees. It is these themes and images that have shaped my
work in recent years along with an experimental approach to working
through ideas and making jewellery.
Teaching
I have been running course for adults and children at Phoenix
since 1998. During that time my courses have ranged from jewellery
making, and sewing, to scrap sculpture, wire and tin and art from found
materials. I also run workshops in schools and with community groups.
As a teacher and workshop leader my aim is to inspire, facilitate and
empower people to discover their own potential for making things, with
a hands-on and experimental approach to learning.
Recently I have been working as part of a team, to set up and
develop an outreach programme at Phoenix. Currently I am working
with adults with learning difficulties as a Day Centre Officer with the
Grace Eyre Foundation.
