Ray Williams

Born in Birmingham and having lived in and around London for most of his working life, Ray came to live in Brighton towards the end of 2005.

After taking a degree in Modern Languages and a Diploma in Education, Ray taught in three secondary schools in London before moving into local government in 1971, working in the Education Service of three local authorities. He spent twenty five years with Hertfordshire County Council in three managerial posts; in Special Education, then primary Education and finally providing HR support for schools across the sectors, before retiring in 2001.

Retirement has been far from dull! Interests, apart from extensive travelling, have included writing a novel, a “magnum opus” which remains stubbornly “work in progress;” voluntary work in Mental Health and with families with pre-school age children; and enjoyment of the arts amongst many other leisure pursuits.

As he settles into the community in Brighton, Ray is looking to become involved with local organisations. He is about to become a school governor and hopes that his skills and experience will be useful to Phoenix Arts during the next exciting stage of its development
