John Packer
Having secured the necessary A Levels at Bexley Tech (BETHS), John went on to study Environmental Engineering at Loughborough University. Now more commonly known as Building Services Engineering the field encompasses the design and specification of all of the engineering systems within buildings, including heating, ventilation, airconditioning, lighting, power, life safety systems etc.
Following graduation in 1979 John worked first for a design and build contractor and then the Electricity Council, before becoming a Divisional Director with Sir Frederick Snow and Partners, a large consultancy in London. In 1991, having acquired the necessary experience John started his own Practice, John Packer Associates, while working half-time as a lecturer at the University of Greenwich, teaching Building Surveyors and Architects.
The Practice is now 19 strong and has gained a reputation for it’s expertise in the area of sustainability and low energy design, largely influenced by John’s time at the Electricity Council, carrying out field trials on actual buildings.
