Phoenix Arts Association Ltd is a charitable (not-for-profit) arts organisation based in central Brighton.

Registered Company No 3136893
Registered Charity No 1051551

It provides 100+ studio spaces, short-term project space for community groups and supports a gallery and education programme which bring together professional artists and the general public in a friendly and creative environment.

In December 2005 Phoenix was awarded £90,000 through the Arts Council’s Grants for the Arts programme.

This, together with a £9,000 Partnership Award from Brighton and Hove City Council, and Phoenix’s own resources, will fund an extensive programme of organisational development over the next three years.

  • Phoenix Gallery runs a diverse and stimulating programme of contemporary visual arts Exhibitions in all media by artists based in Brighton, the UK and abroad
  • There are also a number of Special Events such as film screenings, discussions, outreach events, talks, etc.
  • The education programme features Courses in a variety of practice, including life drawing, fine art, art therapy, children's after-school classes, metal jewellery, ceramic sculpture, and more. Workshops are taught by experienced artists in small groups.
  • Phoenix has developed a Residences programme with the aim of providing national and international artists with the opportunity to develop work within the environment of a large arts organisation.

Phoenix Membership

Even if you don't have a studio at Phoenix now, you can become a Full Member, Friend of Phoenix or an Affiliate Member and receive the programme of exhibitions and workshops automatically as well as other benefits as described below.

Full Members of Phoenix

Full Members of Phoenix Arts are artists and individuals who have an interest in Phoenix's work but do not rent a studio. They comprise committed individuals with a good understanding of contemporary art and a real interest in the future success of Phoenix.

Full Members are required to attend the Annual General Meeting (usually held in the Spring), and to become involved in other areas of activity if and when appropriate. Full Members also benefit from:

star Invitations to special events, artist’s talks, panel discussions and networking events
star Invitations to all private views
star Previews tours of open studios
star Receiving the gallery and workshop programme first

Associate Members of Phoenix

Associate Members are artists who rent studio space at Phoenix.

Assicate Members can vote at the Annual General Meeting (usually held in the Spring).

 

 

Friends of Phoenix

By becoming a Friend of Phoenix you will provide much valued support for the charitable activities of Phoenix Arts Association and will receive the following benefits:

star Receive invitations to exhibition openings and other events throughout the year
star Receive the current programme three times a year as soon as it's printed
star Be eligible for the concessionary rates for workshop registration

Affiliate Membership

Affiliate members are artists who apply for a studio at Phoenix and are invited to join a waiting list. Affiliate Members also receive the following benefits:

star Receive the current programme three times a year as soon as it's printed
star Be eligible for the concessionary rates for workshop registration
star Receive invitations to take part in group exhibitions in the foyer gallery

Affiliate membership is £7 sterling per year; overseas membership is £10 per year
