Phoenix Brighton is pleased to exhibit HOUSE 2012’s new commissions of work from artists Robin Blackledge, Deborah Bowness, Helene Kazan and Caroline Le Breton including sculpture, installation, photography and moving image. Responding to a brief from internationally acclaimed artist David Batchelor, the artists were commissioned to develop work which responds to the themes of art, domestic space and the everyday. Working with the unique setting of the gallery at Phoenix Brighton, they interrogate, invert and illuminate our notions of home and security, and public and private space.

Call for proposals from artists based in the UK or with a previous track record of exhibiting or working in the UK.  Large printed artwork 28 m wide x 10 m high to be displayed on the front façade of the Phoenix Brighton building in 2012/2013.

New Arts Courses starting in May, June and July 2012 - book now!

We are really excited to tell you about our new programme of arts courses here with sessions starting in May, June and July! We have a new 'drop in' life drawing course on Saturday mornings too and a special 'drop in' life drawing all dayer on 19th May as part of our massive open studios event. We've also added an extra Contemporary Jewellery Course by popular demand! Phoenix Brighton is the largest artist led organisation in the South East of England so you can expect to learn from professional artists in our spacious purpose built studios and are widely agreed to be the best independent providers of arts courses in the region. We'll even have a cafe where you can socialise with fellow students opening in May. Not only that you can also keep up to date with all the latest news, gossip and pictures from the courses on our special Phoenix Arts Courses Facebook page.

Blowup Commission

John Clive Proposal

The giant artwork on the Phoenix Brighton building was commissioned by Phoenix Brighton from artist John Clive. The image measure 28 metres across by 10.5 metres high.


 

Normal Flora: Bioart Responses To Modernising Medical Microbiology

A solo exhibition at the Barn Gallery in Oxford during May 2012 by Phoenix member Anna Dumitriu, artist in residence on the UK Clinical Research Consortium Modernising Medical Microbiology Project, blurs the boundaries between art, textile crafts, and science. It uses a range of digital, biological and traditional media including live bacteria, projections and textiles.
